TIBOR POLGÁR
Architect & Visual Artist
Somewhere along the way, my architectural sketches began to inspire something else.
I am an architect, educated at the Budapest University of Technology and Economics, with 30 years of professional experience.
In architectural drawings, every line has a purpose. Inspired by sketches from my architectural work, I began creating drawings that were no longer tied to a specific building or function.
Freed from these constraints, lines and geometric forms could develop new relationships and become independent compositions.
What began as spontaneous sketching gradually evolved into a series of artworks, moving from drawings to digital images and physical objects. Along the way, each new work opened up unexpected possibilities, inspiring further exploration.
For me, the creative process itself — experimenting, discovering, and making — is just as enjoyable and meaningful as the finished artworks.
I would like to take you through some of the key stages of this journey.
I invite you to explore the images and their accompanying descriptions in sequence, as each reveals another part of the story.

TETRA explores the relationship between the part and the whole.
TETRA — PART AND WHOLE The composition consists of four individual square artworks, designed to form a unified image when brought...
THE FOUR ELEMENTS
PENTA takes the relationship between part and whole explored in TETRA towards an open, expandable system. The starting idea was simple...
Five square elements had to be designed so that any one of them could be placed at the centre, with the remaining four connecting to its...
PENTA 1 — THE FIVE ELEMENTS The first PENTA set consists of five individual artworks, each with its own composition and...
After developing PENTA 1, I created a second set of five elements based on the same geometric principles.
Each element has its own composition, while the set follows the same rules of connection as the first. Once again, any of the five...
PENTA 2 — THE FIVE ELEMENTS The second PENTA set consists of five new artworks, each with its own composition and identity. Developed...
Each PENTA set consists of five elements, identified by the letters P, E, N, T and A. The corresponding elements of the two sets are...
A new artwork every day.
Using magnetic PENTA 1 elements, I can rearrange the composition directly on the wall. The same five artworks can form different...
With all ten magnetic elements from PENTA 1 and PENTA 2, the possibilities expand further. I can exchange corresponding elements between...
I developed the PENTA Configurator to make it easy for anyone to explore the possibilities of the system and create their own compositions...
Choose which PENTA sets you want to use, then create your own composition. To launch the configurator, close this image viewer using the X...

The process begins by hand. Drawing is not merely a way of recording an imagined form. As lines, surfaces, and proportions take shape, new...
A print-like quality was present in my drawings from the beginning. Strong contrasts, geometric forms, and clearly defined surfaces...
For me, the possibility of space was present in the two-dimensional compositions from the beginning. I often see surfaces bounded by lines...
FRAGMA is not a style or a fixed method. It is a way of thinking that connects my works. It begins with observation — discovering...
